Description A giant bamboo from China, also known as Moso-Bamboo, with huge, bluish-green culms and dense, deep green, beautifully arching foliage. It can grow to nearly 30 m tall in a climate with hot, humid summers but will also grow well in cooler regions, where it generally stays much smaller, sometimes only 3 m tall. It is very hardy and can take very severe freezes down to almost -20°C. In China and Japan, this bamboo is one of the most popular for its edible new shoots. Sowing Advice The seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. Press the cereal-like seeds onto moist cultivation soil, cover them thinly with the substratum and move the container in a warm spot. Given temperatures around 25°C and even moisture, the seeds germinate after 10 to 20 days. Seeds sometimes germinate within 4 to 6 weeks although some varieties may take very much longer so please be patient. Plant out in the open ground in warmer countries or in a large container elsewhere.
