The Aquafilter FCCST 10BB water softening 10″ Big Blue cartridge is filled with FDA compliant ion exchange resin. This reduces water hardness by reducing calcium and magnesium ion content in water. Calcium and magnesium are often called “hardness minerals”.Large amounts of these ions in water are responsible for the formation of scale deposits, higher detergent consumption and stains on glassware. In extreme cases large amounts of calcium and magnesium can lead to glass etching.The FCCST 10BB cartridge can also be used as a pre-filter in reverse osmosis systems to provide protection by reducing the hardness of the water passing through the reverse osmosis membrane.
